KUWAIT: HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah chaired on Sunday a meeting of the coordinating committee tasked with following up the country’s infrastructure and transportation system projects. The meeting discussed effective oversight tools aimed at enhancing road safety, reducing burdens and costs on infrastructure, alleviating pressure on the road network, ensuring optimal use, reducing material and human losses and curbing customs evasion at land, sea and air ports.
HH the Prime Minister stated that this approach falls within the framework of the state’s relentless efforts to protect national infrastructure and ensure the sustainable and efficient operation of its facilities, achieving a balance between facilitating transportation and trade. The meeting was held at Bayan Palace, during which the committee reviewed several housing developments and their progress.
HH the Prime Minister also chaired a meeting to discuss the general framework of the draft municipal law, which will keep pace with urban infrastructure development and accelerate the country’s growth.
Meanwhile, the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) announced Sunday the launch of 5G Advanced technology in Kuwait, marking a key step toward upgrading the country’s digital infrastructure and preparing for future 6G deployment. In a statement to KUNA, Acting Chairman of CITRA Sheikh Athbi Jaber Al-Sabah said the new technology delivers speeds of up to 3 Gbps and low latency, representing a major advancement in the telecom sector.
He noted that CITRA is working with telecom providers to create a supportive regulatory environment, enabling both public and private sectors to benefit from investment opportunities in digital infrastructure. Kuwait is among the first countries globally to adopt 5G Advanced, underscoring its leadership in embracing cutting-edge technologies and advancing its position as a regional digital hub.
Separately, the ministry of electricity, water and renewable energy appealed on Sunday to the public to reduce power consumption, especially during the peak hours from 11 am to 5 pm daily. The ministry advised consumers to use washing and drying machines in addition to dishwashers after 6 pm until 10 am the next day. It also advised consumers to set air-conditioners’ temperature at 24 degrees Celsius and shut unused ACs or set them at 27 degrees Celsius. The ministry said that these measures will help reduce overall consumption to avoid cuts. – Agencies
