Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk were both on the scoresheet during Tuesday’s round of international fixtures.
Netherlands captain Van Dijk helped his country to an impressive 8-0 victory over Malta in World Cup qualifying on home soil in Groningen.
He netted the third goal of the Group G clash thanks to an emphatic drilled effort into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the area.
Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch also started the game and were half-time withdrawals, while Jeremie Frimpong was unused from the bench.
Szoboszlai, meanwhile, was also on target as he captained Hungary in a 2-1 away friendly win over Azerbaijan in Baku.
The midfielder pounced quickly with a first-time finish as he shot low into the goal from inside the box to grab the lead for his side.
Also in friendly action were Conor Bradley, Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas.
Jones was a second-half substitute for England as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Senegal at the City Ground, while Bradley helped 10-man Northern Ireland to a 1-0 home win over Iceland in Belfast, and Tsimikas aided Greece’s 4-0 victory against Bulgaria in Crete.
Earlier in the day, Wataru Endo completed the full contest for Japan as they overcame Indonesia 6-0 in World Cup qualifying, in Osaka.
